Capt. Tamara Long-Archuleta Memorial Scholarship update
Due to a lack of response from home-schoolers, the Capt. Tammy Memorial Scholarship is now open to any student who graduated from a Valencia County high school and is attending UNM or UNM-Valencia full-time regardless of what year of college. Hurry and mail a copy of transcripts along with a one-page essay about how this scholarship will help you in your education progress to: Scholarship, PO Box 819, Belen, N.M., 87002. Spread the word; Long-Archuleta’s parents would like to give 10 $500.00 scholarships this year. The deadline is Sunday, Aug. 1.
Food for seniors
The ECHO CSFP Program is offering free food for senior citizens who are 60 years old and older from 8 a.m. to noon, Tuesday, July 13, at the Belen Community Center, 305 Eagle Lane. Belen Police Department meeting
The Belen Police Department will hold an in-person, town-hall-style meeting at 6 p.m., Friday, July 16, in the city council chambers at Belen City Hall. This event will also be streamed live on Facebook. BPD officials will answer questions and welcomes suggestions or feedback.
Summer picnic and sale at Harvey House
The Belen Harvey House Museum will hold its grand reopening with a Summer Picnic and Sale from noon to 4 p.m., Saturday, July 17. There will be free hot dogs, lemonade, a book sale, half-price T-shirts, a clearance sale on railroad books, Christmas in July sale, Fiber to Finish Guild with weaving and spinning demonstrations and sale, fresh farm eggs, Tin Lizzie Car Club and free guided tours of the museum. Hispano Chamber’s installation & meeting
The Hispano Chamber of Valencia County installation and annual meeting is being held from noon to 2 p.m., Tuesday, July 20, at Las Dos Gringas, 2100 Camino Del Llano, Belen. The in-person event will include the swearing-in of incoming HCVC officers and board by Judge John Chavez. Guest speakers will discuss housing and development highlights within the county. The Los Lunas High School Class of 1971 will hold its 50th class reunion from 4-7 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 7, at Teofilo’s Restaurante, 144 Main St. in Los Lunas.
