Candidate forums

A political candidate forum for city of Belen elections will be held at 6 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 21, at the Belen First Assembly of God church, 19398 N.M. 314, in Belen.

Abundant Life Christian Center, 105 Avenida del Fuego in Rio Communities, will host a Meet the Candidates forum for the city of Rio Communities election at 6 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 21.

A political candidate forum for city of Belen elections will be held from 10:30 a.m. to noon at the home of Alan Perry, 509 N. Fourth St., Belen. The event is sponsored by the Fourth Street Neighborhood Association.

 

Fiesta de Amor

Celebrate Jesus at Anna Becker Park in Belen from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 23, as part of Fiesta de Amor and Holy Ghost and Fire Ministry Fellowship Church. There will be preaching, music, free food and prayer. Everyone is invited.

 

Pumpkin Hunt

The Meadow Lake Parks Area Association will hold a Pumpkin Hunt and Hay Ride from 2-4 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 24, at the end of Meadow Lake Road. Free candy, hayrides and other prizes. More than 200 pumpkins will be hidden around the park for you to claim. All are invited to attend. For information, call Jim Lane at 865-9786.

 

Masquerade Ball

The Special Orchestra will hold its 22nd annual Masquerade Ball at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 26, at the Sheriff’s Posse Cafe, across from Walmart in Belen. There will be prizes and admission is free.

 

Scarecrow Festival

The third annual Scarecrow Festival, hosted by the Belen Arts District and city of Belen, will be held from 4-7 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 30. There will be a total of 40 booths, including art vendors, food trucks, two live bands, a beer and wine garden and a dancing group. A scarecrow parade and contest will be held at 5:30 p.m., with prizes for the top three. A costume contest will also provide prizes. Trick or treating is encouraged.

 

Halloween Party at the Drive-In

The village of Los Lunas is hosting a free Halloween Party at Badlands Drive-In Theater from 5-10 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 30. There will be candy, games, rock wall, food trucks, a live deejay and dance floor. There will be a costume contest at 7 p.m. for kids and adults on stage, where you’ll be shown on the big screen and have the chance to win some great prizes. The movie, “Beetlejuice” will be shown.

 

Halloween Drive-Thru

The Belen Railway Employees Credit Union, 300 N. Sixth St., will hold a Halloween Drive-Thru Party from 5-7 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 30.

The Secundino Baldonado American Legion Post 81, 325 S. Main St., Ste. D, in Belen, will hold a Halloween party for all legion members at 6 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 30.

 

Trunk or Treat

The city of Belen will hold a Trunk or Treat from 5-8 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 31, at Ann Becker Park in Belen. Register your decorated cars with Martha by calling 966-2700.

 

Fall Festival

First Los Lunas Baptist Church, 914 Los Lentes SW, Los Lunas, will hold its seventh annual Fall Festival from 4-6 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 31.

The festival is an outreach to the community, giving children a safe place to enjoy festivities for the evening. The free event includes games and candy.

 

Trunk or Treat

The Secundino Baldonado American Legion Post 81, 325 S. Main St., Ste. D, in Belen, will hold a Trunk or Treat for the community at 5:30 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 31.

 

Annual food drive

The Retired Senior Volunteer Program is taking donations of non-perishable food for its annual distributions of food baskets for needy family for Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Thanksgiving basket applications

Through Nov. 19, the Retired Senior Volunteer Program will be taking applications to help those in need with a Thanksgiving food basket. This is limited to the number of baskets available.

Those who qualify must live in the Belen school district. When applying, you must show proof of income, residence, ID and birth certificate or Medicaid card for each child in the household.

Applications are available at the RSVP office, 719 S. Main St., Belen. For information, call Bertha Flores at 966-2567, or Cindy Lu Hurbina at 966-2566.

 

Enforcement checkpoints

In conjunction with the New Mexico Department of Transportation and Safer New Mexico Now, the Los Lunas Police Department will be conducting saturation patrols, enforcement checkpoints, and seat belt enforcement operations during the month of November.
