William B. “Bart” Ezell

1948-2019

William B. “Bart” Ezell, age 71, a resident of Belen, passed away on May 22, 2019.

He was a strong, loving and generous man. Bart, as most people knew him, was a recovering alcoholic and believed in the AA’s 12 Step Program for anyone who has a drinking or drug problem. Stay sober and believe in God, is what he always said. He just celebrated his 30th year of sobriety.

Bart fought a long, hard battle with cancer and its effects. He was a member of the Belen Shooting Sports Club and loved competing in trapshooting. For 10 years, he worked for SEC Corporation (Desert Green), mixing and delivering seed and fertilizer to valley farmers between Albuquerque and Socorro.

Bart went to work at A.T. & S.F. Railway in 1973. He loved the railroad, the train whistles and all his friends there. He served as UTU representative for many years.

Bart enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping until his health began to fail. Bart fought a long, hard battle and is now at rest with God. He will be forever missed by family, friends and relatives who loved him.

A very knowledgeable man who could tell you answers to most anything. A family joke was, we didn’t need an encyclopedia, we had Grandpa. He said, “When I die, I don’t have many gifts to leave behind to my kids, but I have a lot to give the world — my three children.”

Bart was preceded in death by his father, William B. Ezell Sr.; and mother, Lela Mary Ezell, of Oklahoma; one brother, Richard Lee Ezell; and two sisters, Gladys White, of Florida, and Roberta.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Glenda Ezell; one son, Clint Ezell and wife, Karen; two daughters, Johnna Ezell and Elona Boelter and David Hamann; eight grandchildren, Adora Pino, Joshua Adams, Greg Stralow, Devin Ezell, Grady Ezell, DJ Boelter, Jaelyn Ezell and Andrew Hamann; two great-granddaughters, Delyla Ezell and Madison Stralow; two brothers, Greg Ezell, of Socorro, and Michael Ezell, of Oklahoma; two sisters, Mattie Garrett, of Utah, and Mary Oldfield, of Los Lunas.

A memorial service will be held at Knights of Columbus Hall in Belen at 2 p.m., Sunday, June 9.

Antonia “Toni” Gurule Lopez

1932-2019

Antonia “Toni” Gurule Lopez, 86 a resident of Jarales, passed away on Thursday, May 23, 2019.

She was born in Abo, N.M. Antonia was a member of Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church. She was known for her love of family.

Antonia and Victor had a long and wonderful marriage, and would have celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary this August. They traveled to the holy land with the church, enjoying Jerusalem, Lourdes and the Sea of Galilee.

She was especially proud of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Victor and Toni both came from large families and she was an auntie to many.

Antonia was also known for her great cooking skills and hospitality. She loved having visitors and was ready to cook a meal for anyone that visited. Toni loved to be outside working on her flowers and gardening. She had a strong, lifelong faith and kept many in her daily prayers.

We are comforted by the love she gave us and will cherish all the wonderful memories we have of her. Antonia will be deeply missed by all, but we know she will be waiting to greet us in heaven.

Antonia is preceded in death by her parents, Trancito Gurule and Manuelita Padilla Gurule; three loving sisters, two devoted brothers; and her loving grandson, Anthony W. Lopez.

She is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, Victor D. Lopez; four children, Bertha Benavidez, Sammy M. Lopez (Kathy), Chris Lopez (Darlene) and Victor A. Lopez (Sandy); grandchildren, Kimberly Benavidez (Casey), Barney Lopez, Alex Lopez, Melinda (Jarvis) A. Lopez, and Miguel Lopez; great-grandchildren, Jeramiah Lopez, Jazmine Lopez and Javaris A. Smith.

All services will be held at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church in Belen. A visitation will be held at 5 p.m. with a Rosary to be recited at 6 p.m., Thursday, May 30. A final visitation will begin at 9 a.m., Friday, May 31, with a Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Belen Memorial Gardens.

Dorsey L. Moore

1922-2019

Dorsey L. Moore, age 96, passed away on May 24, 2019.

He was a World War II Pacific veteran and a charter member of the Los Lunas VFW No. 9676 and belonged to the DAV and American Legion.

Dorsey played the mandolin and loved country music. He built his home and some of the furniture in it. Dorsey was a mechanic and drove an Excelcer laundry truck for years. He did electronic repair at home before computer chips.

He loved fishing and hunting. Dorsey was a graduate of Quemado High School and has several “Oldest Graduate” trophies and plaques.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Esther Moore; father, John N. Moore; two brothers, Theodore and Arnold Moore; three sisters, Elmeda Lane, Winnie Rozelle and Rachel Ray; a daughter, Vickie Wilson; and grandson, Justin Moore.

Dorsey is survived by his wife, Charlene; two sons, Terry and John Moore; brother, Jack Moore; four sisters, Ruth Clark, Ila Gambling, Freida Sharrock and Callie Moore; grandsons, Lance Moore, Russell and Christine Wilson, Chris and Lynette Barbee, J.D. Moore, Justin and Martha Sanders; granddaughters, Kerry Dawn Moore, Billie Jean Harris and Sheila and husband, Jody Barrock; numerous great-grandchildren, two great-great granddaughters and many loving nieces, nephews and cousins. He was greatly loved by his family and he loved them.

The family wants to thank the VA Hospice team, who gave him such loving care in his final days.

In lieu of flowers, a donation to any of the above veteran’s organizations would be appreciated.

Services will take place on Saturday, June 1, at Romero Funeral Home Chapel, beginning with a public viewing at 1 p.m., and a celebration of life at 2 p.m. Interment will take place at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, June 4, at Santa Fe National Cemetery.

Ermelina C. Pino

1936-2019

Ermelina C. Pino, age 82, a resident of Belen, passed away on Friday, May 24, 2019.

All services will take place at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church on Monday, June 3, beginning with a visitation at 8:30 a.m., a Rosary to be recited at 9:30 a.m. and Funeral Mass to begin at 10 a.m. Interment will take place at Santa Fe National Cemetery.

Daniel N. Romero

1925-2019

On May 26, 2019, Daniel N. Romero, 93 years young, went to be with Our Heavenly Father.

Daniel was born on Sept. 8, 1925, to Nicanor C. and Alfides Vallejos Romero, in Belén. He was a devout Catholic and was the third of five brothers and one sister.

Daniel was a proud veteran of the United States Army. He has been married to the love of his life, Lucinda Sánchez Romero, for 73 years. They raised four children in the Barelas community in downtown Albuquerque. There, he was an active member of the Sacred Heart Church.

After 30 successful years at the New Mexico Taxation and Revenue Department, he retired on his “Romero’s Rancho” in Belén. As a former bronc rider, he was happiest irrigating his land and watching over his livestock. He was an old cowboy, who was stubborn and exemplified a strong work ethic.

He was a lifelong Republican. His favorite saying was, “When the horse bucks you off, dust yourself off and get back on that horse again.”

He had a great love of Jesus and his family. He was a member of Our Lady of Belén Catholic Church and a charter member of the Knights of Columbus.

Daniel was passionate about education and being bilingual. He encouraged everyone to learn the Spanish language and would say, “Quien habla dos lenguas vale por dos.” He was most prideful of all of his children and grandchildren’s many accomplishments.

Daniel was preceded in death by his infant son, Danny Boy; daughter in-law, Donna D. Romero; and siblings Frank, Annie, Ray, Arno and Joe Leo.

He is survived by his wife, Lucinda; children, Michael and his wife, June, Annette and her husband, Tony Carrillo, Lorenzo and Gloria, Julie and her husband, Kevin Benavídez.

He also survived by his grandchildren, Dominick and Kelly Romero, Andrea and Daniel Montaño, Marquelyn and Tyler Swinson, Anthony Carrillo, Melisha and Evan Sales, Daniel C. Romero, Karín Romero, Joelle Benavídez and Kade Benavídez. His great grandchildren are Roman and Christian Romero and Maya, Marina and Myles Montaño.

A visitation and Rosary were held Tuesday, May 28, at the Romero Funeral Home Chapel. A final visitation and Funeral Mass were held Wednesday, May 29, at Our Lady of Belén Catholic Church. Interment followed at Our Lady of Belén Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers were his sons-in-law and grandsons, Kevin and Kade Benavídez, Tony and Anthony Carrillo, Daniel Montaño, Dominick and Daniel C. Romero, Evan Sales and Tyler Swinson.
