James M. Beaty

James M. Beaty, age 82, a resident of Belen, passed away from COPD at the Veterans Hospital, on Saturday, Feb. 2, 2019.

He sold his farm in Indiana and moved to New Mexico to be with a family member with asthma. James was born to the late Warren and Anne Beaty, his mother was from Ireland. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. James belonged to local 412 Plumbers and Pipefitters Union. He wore many hats; James farmed, was a racehorse owner and a welder.

A very special thank you to the wonderful staff at the Veterans Hospital. He was treated with knowledge, experience, kindness and true consideration as a veteran.

James is preceded in death by his parents, Warren and Anne; and son, Patrick Lee, in 1998.

He is survived by his wife, Eileen Beaty; son, Jason (Melissa); daughter, Cynthia; son, Mike (Cindy); son, Patrick Alex; grandchildren, Hadley, Candy, Niko, Jenn, Mikie, Sara and Zaelynn; brother, John; sister, Carmen, of Minnesota; favorite nephew, Kevin; and good friend, Bud Larsen. He is also survived by numerous relatives back east.

Per James’s request, cremation has taken place with a private family service.

Leonella Gould

Leonella Gould, age 80, a resident of Belen, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2019.

She was a member of Rio Grande Valley Church of Christ. Family was her greatest joy, along with the people she worked with at Walmart.

Leonella was preceded in death by her parents, Vicente Chavez and Matilda Silva-Chavez; and six brothers and three sisters.

She is survived by sisters, Aurora Jaramillo and Elena Mueller; daughters, Rose Gould and Tammy McMillin; grandson, Eric Gurulé; granddaughters, Alisha Gurulé-Willey and Rachel McMillin; and six great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at Noblin Funeral Service Belen Chapel on Friday, Feb. 8. A visitation will begin at 5 p.m., with a funeral service to be celebrated at 6 p.m. Private burial to take place at a later date with immediate family.

Ernest D. Mascarenas

Ernest D. Mascarenas

Ernest David Mascarenas, a long-time resident of Albuquerque, passed away on Feb. 2, 2019.

Ernest was born and raised in Ocate and Roy, N.M. After high school, he joined the Army and served in World War II for two years. After his return from the Army, he moved to Albuquerque, and graduated from UNM with a degree in political science.

He met and married the love of his life, Ernestine Manzanares. They were active members in both the Catholic Church and politics. Hobbies were gardening, bird watching and playing sports. Ernest was a successful businessman, who owned his own insurance agency, Mascarenas Enterprises Inc. for more than 50 years.

Ernest lived his last two years at the VA Medical foster home of Shawn and Mary Justus in Rio Communities.

The family wishes to express their thanks and gratitude to them for all they did for him. Ernest is survived by three loving daughters and their spouses, seven grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and many friends and relatives.

A Rosary will be recited at 8:30 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 12, at the Shrine of St. Bernadette, 11509 Indian School Rd., NE, in Albuquerque, followed by a Mass at 9 a.m.

Leo P. Sandoval

Leo P. Sandoval 67, a resident of Santa Fe, passed away on Jan. 28, 2019.

Leo was born on Sept. 16, 1951, in Albuquerque, to Erlinda Romero Sandoval and Pete Sandoval. Leo was married to Sharon Salas of 20 years.

Leo is preceded in death by his parents, Erlinda and Pete Sandoval; sister and brother-in-law, Pauline and Rafael Sandoval Aragon; and nephew, David Aragon.

Leo is survived by his wife, Sharon Salas; sons, Gabriel (Glenda) Salas, Ricky (Tara) Salas, Keith Laing and Gary Sandoval; daughters, Jamie-Rae (Daniel) Diaz and Elena (Brent) Wood; and many loving grandchildren.

Leo was a dedicated employee for the state of New Mexico for more than 20 years. Leo was a die-hard sports fan and loved the Dallas Cowboys, Dodgers, Celtics and Lobos.

Pallbearers were Peter Aragon, Robert Duran, Daniel Diaz and Ricky Salas. Honorary pallbearers were Kayla Salas, Jordyn Diaz, Daniel Diaz Jr., Jordan Wood, Hannah Wood, Preston Wood, Josiah Anzures and GabryAnna Salas.

Rodolfo Vargas

A Rosary was recited on Thursday, Jan. 31, and the memorial service was held on Friday, Feb. 1, at the Kiva Chapel of Light in Santa Fe.

Rodolfo Vargas, 83, our beloved grandfather left us to go meet his maker on Dec. 31, 2018.
