Gary L. Aebischer

Died 2020

Gary Aebischer, of Los Lunas, passed away on Aug. 6, 2020, at the age of 78 from pulmonary hypertension and coronary artery disease.

He was born in Green Bay, Wisc., the son of the late Elmer and Margaret (Shepardson) Aebischer. After receiving his EdS degree in school psychology from the University of Tennessee, he obtained his psychological examiner and school psychologist board licenses.

He worked in various counties in east Tennessee and in Los Lunas School districts as a school psychologist. He established a holistic wellness program at Los Lunas High School in 1999, empowering teachers with behavioral management strategies and students in their educational and personal struggles.

Gary was a dedicated Green Bay Packer football fan, and an avid landscaper, favoring the planting of trees. He was also an animal lover, rescuing feral cats and becoming a foster grandparent animal advocate.

Gary leaves his wife, Mary Lydia (Rhode); and son, Gabriel, of Los Lunas; sons, Paul and Kyle, currently living in Franklin, Tenn.; a twin sister, Mary Aebischer, of Brookline, Mass.; two grandchildren, Annabelle and Franklin; and eight nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his two brothers, Kenneth and John (Jack); and sister, Janice (Aebischer) Cornwell, all from Green Bay Wisc.

Memorial services will be held at Saint Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Harriman, Tenn., (tba) and his cremated ashes dispersed at the Better Place Forests in Flagstaff, Ariz. You may send condolences to Mary and Gabriel Aebischer at [email protected].

Nathaniel Aaron Boyles

1990-2020

With deepest sorrow, we announce that Nathaniel Aaron Boyles, 30, our beloved son, brother, uncle and friend, passed away suddenly early Tuesday morning, Aug. 18, 2020.

Those who knew Nathan lost a shining light in their lives. He was a big loving teddy bear with a keen sense of humor, always willing to help his family or friend in need.

Nathan will be greatly missed everyday by his mother, Deborah Boyles; his father, Rob Boyles; his sister, Shauna Delgado and her husband, Dominic Delgado; niece, Peyton; and nephew, Santiago; his brother, Leon Rivers Jr. and his girlfriend, Hope Trujillo; and nieces, Brooklyn and Ashlynn; grandmother, Barbara Brecheisen; and his loving aunts, uncles, cousins and many great friends.

We know Nathan is now with his grandpa, Dee D. Brecheisen; grandmother, Inez Frankhouse; grandfather, Robert L. Boyles; and cousin, Ben Brecheisen; and is loved here on Earth as well as in Heaven.

Nathan graduated from Belen High School and went on to receive his associate degree in construction management and estimating. Nathan utilized his education working with his father and sister in the family business, Rob Boyles Construction, where he led work crews and made many great friends.

Nathan loved to read and enjoyed playing video games and hanging out with his many friends. He enjoyed sharing jokes and had an infectious laugh, you had to laugh with him even if you didn’t get the joke. He loved his puppy, Jelly, who couldn’t get in his arms fast enough when she saw him. Family was important to Nathan, he made it a priority to be at the weekly family dinners and helped whenever he was needed.

A celebration of Nathan’s life will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 29, at 91 Otero Road, Los Lunas. Please enter at the second gate to the arena. It will be officiated by Pastor James Robbins of the Valencia County Cowboy Church. Masks are required as well a social distancing. The memorial will also be streamed live on Facebook at Deborah Brecheisen-Boyles.

Mary Jo (Garley) Moya

1929-2020

In the early morning of Aug. 18, 2020, Mary Jo (Garley) Moya, 90, was called to her heavenly home to be with her Lord and Savior, also to be re-united, after a nine-year separation, with the love of her life, her husband of 60 years, Paul S. Moya.

Mary Jo was born Oct. 7, 1929, to Enriques and Leocadia (Martinez) Garley. She was raised and educated in Belen, and grew up on River Road as child No. 10 of 13 siblings. She was a proud member of the 1948 Belen High graduating class and retained close life-long friendships with many of her classmates.

Mary Jo and Paul married on Aug. 12, 1950, and began their life together on their farm in La Costancia, N.M., where they resided their entire married lives. Together, they raised six children.

Although she was extremely active in so many different activities, she was a home maker extraordinaire, with her primary love and focus always being her family and her personal relationship with God.

Mary Jo was preceded in death by her husband Paul; her mother and father and nine brothers and two sisters.

Mary Jo is survived by one brother, Joey Garley; her six children, son, Joseph Moya (and friend, Peggy Gutjhar); daughter, Mary Ellen Hodges (husband, Benny); son, Ron Moya (wife, Mary); son, Eugene Moya (wife, Janet); daughter, Anna Moya-Troyer (husband, Gerry); and daughter, Theresa Moya-Johnson (husband, Lawrence). She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

For their children and grandchildren, Paul and Mary Jo always placed a premium and a special emphasis on the power of faith and prayer, education, a strong work ethic, honesty, good citizenship, and becoming contributing members of society. They insisted and ensured that all their children receive a quality and complete education. All achieved degrees from New Mexico State University, and higher degrees from various universities.

Aside from being a marvel in the kitchen (the best tortillas, ever), raising six children and running a household, Mary Jo enjoyed a devoted religious life and belonged to many organizations and groups, including: Charter member of the Belen Catholic Daughters, Saint Vincent de Paul Society, Ladies Extension Club, at the Tomé Immaculate Conception Church she served as a Eucharistic Minister, “Posadas” ministry leader and organizer for approximately 40 years, at Father Beach’s request was an original lector and helped administer the schedule for lectors for many years, she maintained the altar linens, and served multiple years as the Immaculate Conception Fiestas ticket coordinator (she was so involved in her religion and church that Paul would sometimes joke, “Mary Jo, I’m afraid that you are so involved that you might go past heaven”).

Paul and Mary Jo served as the padrinos for the Tomé Parish in the 1950s; they received the Saint Francis of Assisi Award from the Archbishop at the Cathedral Basilica of Saint Francis Assisi in Santa Fe (2003); served as the Valencia County Fair Grand Marshals (2000); she loved her membership and friends in TOPS, her quilting club and regular luncheons with her life-long friends.

She has lived a remarkable life and had such a positive influence and impact on so many people with which she had contact. Our loving memories of our mother will forever be cherished and shall always remain fresh.

A public viewing and Rosary were held at Immaculate Conception Church in Tomé on Sunday, Aug. 23. The Funeral Mass was conducted on Monday, Aug. 24.

Mary Jo’s pallbearers were Max Moya, Irene Moya, Xavier Moya, Victoria Troyer, Joey Troyer and Benito Moya. Honorary pallbearers were Francisco Romero, Maxim Moya, Maisie Moya, Brooklynn Swinford and Adalynn Swinford.

The family requests that in lieu of floral tributes, donations be made to the Tomé Immaculate Conception Church Renovation Project, or the Saint Vincent de Paul Society.

Tiburcia “Tibbie” N. Moya

1951-2020

Tiburcia “Tibbie” N. Moya, 69, a lifelong resident of Belen, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, July 3.

She was born on June 28, 1951, to Andelico Moya and Maria V. Moya, of Belen.

She worked in the hospital industry, and was a cook, baker and bartender, and loved being around people. She was always the life of the party.

Tibbie was always telling jokes, dancing and singing, and she loved spending time with all of her family. After retiring, she enjoyed working on her yard and going to the mountains and picking piñon. She was a loving and giving person with a big heart.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Andelico and Maria Moya; and brothers, Eloy, Juan and Santos Moya.

Tibbie is survived by her loving partner of 32 years, Shirley Romero; and daughter, Lisa Moya, of Ft. Collins, Colo.; grandchildren, Andrew and wife, Ashly Thompson, of Ft. Collins, Colo., Savanah Thompson, of Houston, Texas, and Sara and Iysha Tanner, of Ft. Collins, Colo.; one brother, Gilbert and wife, Crusita Moya, of Belen; and four sisters, Antonia Moya, of Meeker, Colo., Barbara Ramirez, of Albuquerque, Joanna Johnston, of Belen, and Maryann and husband, Albert Rodriguez, of Greely, Colo.

A memorial and life celebration will be announced at a later date.

Olympia Viola Landavazo Naranjo

1935-2020

On Aug. 18, 2020, Olympia Viola Landavazo Naranjo, age 84, unexpectedly passed away young at Presbyterian Hospital while fighting for her life with the heart and strength of a lion.

She was always very independent. Olympia was born and spent her entire life in New Mexico. She earned her master’s degree from NMSU, then worked as a school teacher for 36 years. Her favorite activity was to get in the car and go searching for bargains. Olympia will be missed by thousands of people.

She was preceded in death by many family members.

Olympia is survived by sons, Robert, Ray and Michael Naranjo; grandson, Andrue Naranjo; and many more family members.

Services will be held at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Tomé on Thursday, Aug. 27, beginning with a public viewing at 5:30 a.m., and a Rosary to be recited at 6 p.m.. On Friday, Aug. 28, there will be a final visitation at 10 a.m., a Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m., and interment to follow at Tomé Catholic Cemetery.

David Nathaniel Stromei

1942-2020

David Nathaniel Stromei, a resident of Belen, entered Heaven’s gates on Thursday, Aug. 6, 2020.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Hark Daniel Stromei.

He is survived by his son, Casey Stromei; his daughter, Tasa Stromei; and son-in-law, Shane Nichols; granddaughters, Azlynn Nichols and Delaney Nichols; his brothers, Tom Stromei and Frank Stromei; and many nieces and nephews.

Dave was the son of Mozella L. Colbaugh and Frank T. Stromei. He was born Dec. 22, 1943, in Springer. His mother was a schoolteacher and father a principal; they taught for school for 40 years in New Mexico.

Dave was raised where his parents taught school, which changed many times during his childhood. He graduated high school in Mountainair. Growing up, he also spent a lot of time on his grandparent’s ranch in Corona.

Dave was a true entrepreneur, who was always willing to work hard and was successful at whatever he decided to do. He worked on many of New Mexico’s ranches and sale barns pregnancy testing cattle. At this time, he also blood tested the cattle to help New Mexico become a brucellosis free state.

Dave owned and operated a taxicab business in Belen for 15 years, then sold the business to retire. During his retirement, he became a skilled bit and spur maker. Spur making was a skill he enjoyed sharing and he became known for making a real cowboy set of spurs.

Services for Dave will be a private graveside service at the cemetery in Corona. Family and friends are planning a virtual tribute, featuring some of his handmade bits and spurs.
