Jerry Brumley

1933-2022

Jerry Brumley, age 88, a resident of Bosque Farms, left his earthly home on Jan. 17, 2022.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Baron Brumley.

A husband, father and grandfather, Jerry leaves behind his wife of nearly 63 years, Joyce; daughter, Katherine Darlington; granddaughter, Emily Berch (Matthew); grandson, Joshua Sikes (Odessa); and many nieces and nephews.

He grew up on a farm in Colorado, and loved fly-fishing, hunting, camping, hiking and being immersed in the wilderness. Various early jobs Jerry had included being a bus driver and working for the U.S. Forest Service.

After serving in the Army, he graduated from Western State College with degrees in physics and mathematics. Jerry met his wife, Joyce, at a football game in Durango, and shortly after marrying they moved to Alamogordo, where he worked at Holloman Airforce Base and later at Kirtland Air Force Base in Albuquerque.

A quiet man, he will be remembered as having incredible strength, patience and sharing his love for the outdoors. Jerry found solace in classical music and reading, especially poetry by Robert Burns and William Blake.

A trumpet player once upon a time, Jerry helped pass down his musical interests to his daughter and grandchildren.

He is buried at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. A special thanks goes out to Romero Funeral Home in Belen. We appreciate you so much.

Carol Gabaldon

1946-2022

Carol Gabaldon, 76, a resident of Belen, passed away on Feb. 13, 2022. She passed peacefully surrounded by family.

She was born and raised in Casa Colorada by her parents, Gaspar and Ursisinia Benevidez. She was their only daughter and the only sister to eight brothers.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Donicio Gabaldon Sr.; her sons, Louie and Gary Gabaldon; great-grandson, Adrian Gallegos; her parents, and brothers, Louie, Richard, Gregorio, Patricio, Selso and Celestino Benevidez.

Carol is survived by her son, Donicio Gabaldon Jr. (Margaret); daughters, Rosemary (husband, Dwayne) Donoghue, Liza Holler and Gaylean (husband, Jose) Mendoza; her grandsons, Rudy Sisneros, Anthony (wife, Raquel) Jaramillo, Joseph Jaramillo, James Gabaldon and Keonu Gabaldon; granddaughters, Rose (husband, Matt) Silva, Charlene Gabaldon, Kathleen Gabaldon and Sierra Gabaldon; as well as her brothers, Raymond and Billy Benevidez. She is also survived by many great-grandchildren.

Carol’s passion was always trying to help others. She also loved being outside, watching her chickens and having barbecues with family. She will be deeply missed and lives in our hearts forever.

Mario Jackson

1948-2022

Mario Jackson, age 74, a resident of Los Lunas, passed away peacefully at home on Feb. 10, 2022.

Mario loved to listen to music of all types, enjoyed riding his bike and loved his dog, Lucy No. 3. Mario made friends anywhere he went.

He is survived by his four children, who live in California. He was a great friend to many and will be missed by all.

Since his closest family is from out of state, no services will be provided.

 

Helen Mary (Garcia) Lockhart

1939-2022

Helen Mary (Garcia) Lockhart, age 83, a lifelong resident of Los Lunas, passed away on Friday, Feb. 11, 2022.

Helen was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister. She spent a lot of her time tending to her flowers. She enjoyed time with her family at all family gatherings.

One of her favorite pastime things to do was be outdoors with her husband and family going hunting and fishing. She also liked to cook, work on puzzles, play cards and spend time at the casino. She was known for her homemade tortillas and delicious Thanksgiving stuffing.

Helen and her late husband, Johnny, enjoyed sitting on the back porch having a cup of coffee while watching all the hummingbirds.

Helen was preceded in death by her late husband, Johnny Lockhart, of 59 years; parents, Frank and Lucinda Garcia; and sisters, Dorothy Gabaldon, Elizabeth Garcia and Antonia Gonzales.

Helen leaves behind her children, Hank Lockhart and spouse, Paula, Randy Lockhart and spouse, Theresa, Frank Lockhart and spouse, Debra, Lou Ann Lockhart Jaramillo and husband, Andrew, Loretta Lockhart Griego and husband, Delbert, and Renee Lockhart Sullivan. She also leaves behind 14 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren, two sisters, Adela Griego and Mary Marquez; and brother-in-law, Frank Gonzales.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 26, at the Noblin Funeral Service Belen Chapel, 418 W. Reinken Ave., Belen.

Steve James Romero

1955-2022

Steve James Romero, age 66, a resident of Tomé, passed away peacefully at home on Jan. 25, 2022, surrounded by family.

He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church of Tomé and Our Lady of Belen Parish. Steve was a lifetime resident of Tomé. He graduated from LLHS and went to UNM.

Steve farmed up to 700 acres in Valencia and Socorro County, starting in his teens. He ventured into dirt work and trucking, which evolved into Romero Excavating & Trucking. Steve did thousands of jobs around the state, including schools, shopping malls, Walmarts, the Spaceport in T or C, and roadways.

He married his wife, Glynell, in 1977, and they pursued a family of three children. Steve struggled with Parkinson’s for 21 years and he was an inspiration, displaying perseverance, faith and determination.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Nolberto and Felicitas; and siblings, Horacio, Rosaline, Arlen and Russell Romero.

Steve is survived by his wife, Glynell, of 44 years; three wonderful children, Sabrina Johnson, Horacio Romero (Kathryn) and Alisha Moore (Kyle); siblings, Danny (Valerie), Nolbert (Janet), Sylvia Sanchez (Andy), Lillian and Jeanette; and six grandchildren, Makayla, Gage, Horacio, Russell, Sally and Cheyenne.

A viewing and Rosary were held at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church on Friday, Jan. 28, and a final viewing and Funeral Mass was held on Saturday, Jan. 29. Interment followed at Tome Catholic Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Matthew, Joshua and Nathan Romero, Leland and Ethan Sanchez, and Chad Carter.

Robert Henry “Bobby” Schloer Jr.

1971-2022

Robert Henry “Bobby” Schloer Jr., of Peralta, passed away at home Saturday, Feb. 12, 2022, at the age of 50.

Words cannot begin to express the void left in our hearts.

He was preceded in death by his great-grandmother and grandparents, who will take care of him and keep him in line up in heaven.

He is survived by his wife, Cynthia Martinez-Schloer; parents, Robert H. Schloer Sr. and Drenda Schloer; children, Brittany, Christopher, Marisa and Alyssa; siblings, John and Janette; one nephew, four nieces, two great-nieces, aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was born April 18, 1971, in Albuquerque. He grew up in Peralta. He was always full of life, love, mischievousness, a true free spirit. He never met a stranger. He always had a big smile and huge adorable dimples.

When he played with kids, he became a child and they adored him. His dogs were his fur babies, and spoiled rotten. He enjoyed his job and the people he worked with. He was an adventurous sole. He enjoyed fast cars, motorcycles and racing, boating, water skiing, RZR rides, camping and just hanging out with friends.

He loved his wife and his family with all his heart. He was taken from us way too soon and will be missed to the core of our souls. Until we meet again … Love you Bobby.

Bobby’s celebration of life will be held at 4 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 24, at the New Beginning Church, 4770 Montgomery Blvd. NE, Albuquerque.

 

Onecima “Mema” Perea

1929-2022

Onecima “Mema” Perea, age 92, passed away peacefully in the presence of her family on Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2022, at her home in El Cerro/Valencia.

A lifelong New Mexican, Onecima was born in June 1929 in South West Albuquerque, the daughter of Redolfo Otero and Rosita Otero. Onecima attended Los Lunas High School in the early 1940s.

Some of her fondest memories are of her happy childhood with her family in El Cerro, growing up with Eufelia (stepmom) Otero, Jacobo (grandpa) Otero and Vivianita (sister).

Onecima will be remembered for her loving, kind spirit, always sustained and grounded by her faith. She was a wonderful storyteller. No one ever left her home without being treated to her traditional New Mexican cooking. She embraced the opportunities to provide, teach and, above all, love. She always had a gentle heart when approaching life’s most difficult problems and exhibited the importance of forgiveness.

She was married in March 1946 to Adenago Perea and remained married until his death in 2015. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, son, Norman Perea; granddaughter, Michelle Perea; sisters, Louisa Aparicio, Leonila Martinez and Juanita Pedroza; and brother, Antonio Otero.

She is survived by her children, Felix Perea (and wife, Terry), Elizabeth Carr (and husband, Victor), Nancy Simma (and husband, Randy), Daniel Perea and Pearl Perea; eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She is also survived by her sister, Vivianita Garcia; brother, Ceasar Otero; and sister-in-law, Leandra Aragon.

A private memorial service will be held, followed by a reception and burial at El Cerro Cemetery.
