Basketball game to benefit H for H, 4-H

The Harlem Ambassadors co-ed basketball team, similar to the Harlem Globetrotters, will be in Valencia County on Saturday, April 6, to face the Habitat Bricklayers in a fund-raiser for the Habitat for Humanity of Valencia County and 4-H.

The game will be at 7 p.m. at the Los Lunas High School gymnasium. Tickets at the door will be $10 for adults and $8 for youth 18 and under.

Yucca Little League

Yucca Little League will hold Opening Day ceremonies at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 6 at the Bosque Farms Recreation Park. The celemonies will last until noon. Afterwards, a barbecue and special events are scheduled. Anyone interested in welcoming the season along with Yucca Little League is welcome to attend.

LL softball leagues

The Village of Los Lunas is now taking registration for its men’s open and “fun” softball leagues. The fee to register a men’s open team is $450. The cost for the fun league is $325 per team. The season is slated to start later this month. A mandatory meeting of team managers will be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 9, at the Daniel Fernandez Youth Center gym. Cheer camp

The Belen High School cheerleaders will host a cheer camp on Saturday, April 13. The camp will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The cost is $20 per child with lunch included. A parent performance is set for 2:30 p.m. All profits from the event go to sent the Eagle cheerleaders to the Friendship Games in Australia. Golf tourney

The Richard Peña Golf Foundation will hold its annual fund-raiser tournament April 27-28 at Tierra Del sol Country Club. The tournament will be played under a two-person best ball format beginning at XXXX. The cost is XXXXXXX. Hoop team seeks players

The Los Lunas Blaze, an AAU boys basketball team for 14- and 15-year-olds, is looking for players to fill their roster. If interested, call coach Saiz at 379-8895.

Senior Olympics

New Mexico Senior Olympics is presenting a free Senior Olympic Fitness Awareness Event (SOFAE) for seniors 50 years or older on Thursday, April 18. The day of health screening, physical activities and health education presentations will be held at Future Foundations Family Center, 551 Washington in Grants. The activities will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. A light lunch will be served. The first 100 participants will receive a T-shirt. For more information, call Dick Griffith at 505-285-3542.

The Valencia County Senior Olympics is taking registrations for the local competitions in March and April. Events include free-throw shooting, tennis, talent, dance, horseshoes, track and field events and many more. Men and women 50 years of age or older are eligible. The fee is $15 per participant. Open gym

The Los Lunas Parks and Recreation department is offering an open gym from noon to 1 p.m. at the Daniel Fernandez Youth Center gym. There is no charge.
