1949-2022

Patricia Ann “Patty” Gutierrez

Patricia Ann “Patty” Gutierrez quietly fell asleep in death on Oct. 9, 2022, surrounded by her beloved family.

Patty was born Oct. 27, 1949, in Albuquerque, to Alice Meese and Pete Gabaldon. She was a Gallup High School graduate, who married the love of her life, Phillip “Peapot” Gutierrez in 1967. Together, they spent the next 55 years raising their daughter, Debbie Martinez; two sons, and their wives, Phillip and Debbie Gutierrez and Sean and Brenda Gutiererez; granddaughter, Rhiannon; and great-granddaughter, Genayah Rose; and instilling their amazing love and commitment in seven more grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Patty’s love of life was surpassed only by her great love of people. A love that was demonstrated in each of her career choices. As a young mother, she worked for the United Way and municipal courts in Gallup. She was also involved with Gallup amateur baseball for many years. Later, she owned Patty’s Corner in Belen, a favorite of the locals.

In her later years, she became totally dedicated to supporting the families broken by addiction and assisting those with addictive disorders. She was instrumental in starting the T.O.S.S program in Albuquerque, and was an integral part of the Partners In Wellness/Agave Counseling Program in Los Lunas where she retired from. Her entire life was spent in the services of others.

She is proceeded in death by her grandmother, Filipina Meese; her mother and father, her stepfather, Arthur Williams; father-in-law, Dan Gutierrez; brother-in-law, Steve Schray; and nephews, John Bacon and Richard Schray.

Survivors include her devoted husband, Phillip, sisters, Earry Schray and Roseanna Bacon; her children, grandchildren, a wonderful array of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, all of whom she loved very much.

Patty will be dearly missed by all.

Services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 19, at St. Phillips Episcopal Church, 113 La Luna Pl., Rio Communities.
