Belen

Patrick’s Flooring opened its doors for business on Aug. 26 in the Del Rio Plaza on Reinken Avenue in Belen.

Owner Jim Patrick offers 37 years of experience in various lines of flooring from his 124 Caldwell location. Patrick recently moved to Valencia County from the small town of Kimberly, Wis., located about 30 miles southwest of Green Bay.

During his floor-installing days in Wisconsin, one of Patrick’s more memorable jobs was in-stalling carpet at the house of former Green Bay tackle Ron Kostel-nik, who played during the Packer glory years, from 1961 to 1968.

“I put carpet in his trophy room, back in the late ’60s,” Patrick said. “I used to go to all the games for 13 years, before the strike.”

The avid football fan has been in the carpet business long enough to come up with his own private label, called Patrick’s Carpet. In addition to his own label, Patrick’s carries a good selection of national brands, including Mohawk, Southwinds, Shaw and Aladdin, to name a few.

Besides carpet, Patrick stocks different types of flooring material, including ceramic tile, wood, tile, laminate and linoleum floors.

When it comes to vinyl flooring, Patrick said, he has special pricing on Mannington vinyl.

The youngest of three boys, Patrick learned the trade from his older brother, Pat, and another brother is also in the flooring business.

“My dad told us to stay out of the paper mill,” Patrick said. “My entire family is in the business. Between the three of us, we have 315 years of experience.”

Right now, Patrick does all of the floor installation himself, until the orders start rolling in. For now, customers will have the advantage of getting carpet or flooring installed by the owner himself.

“All of my work is guaranteed,” Patrick said.
