Two weeks following the Big Hole Fire that devastated 75 to 80 percent of Whitfield Wildlife Conservation Area, the conservation center held its annual Earth Day Fiesta. The event included a nature walk to the black, scorched landscape and the native grasses growing though the scars could be seen up close. The event also included a presentation from Wildlife Rescue Inc. of New Mexico, complete with live animals such as a great horned owl and Gila monster.
