Marching bands from all of the county high schools competed with others from around the state at this year’s Valencia Classic Marching Band Festival on Saturday. The competition was hosted by Los Lunas High School. The Los Lunas High School Tiger Marching Band received a superior rating from judges, along with Cleveland High School, Sandia High School and Goddard High School. Valencia High School Jaguar and Belen High School Intensity received an excellent rating of II. Other bands that competed included Cibola High School, V. Sue Cleveland Storm Regiment, Highland High School Hornets, Moriarty High School Pintos and Manzano High School Royal Guard.

Makayla Grijalva was born and raised in Las Cruces. She is a 2020 graduate of The University of New Mexico, where she studied multimedia journalism, political science and history. She covers the village of Los Lunas, Los Lunas Schools, SODA and the town of Peralta.
