PNM will award a total of $12,000 in scholarships to deserving Hispanic students around the state in 2002. The PNM Hispanic Heritage Scholarship applications, due June 3, are available at all New Mexico high schools, colleges and vocational schools.

The program, in its 13th year, will award 12 scholarships. Three $1,000 scholarships will be awarded in each of four categories: high achiever; non-traditional or returning; potential achiever and graduate student.

Applicants must be Hispanic New Mexico residents and enrolled in or accepted to study at an accredited college, university, community college or vocational school within the state. Applications must be postmarked by midnight, June 3. Criteria includes commitment to Hispanic progress and development, involvement in community-based organizations, personal qualities and strengths, academic achievement, financial need and demonstrated ability to overcome obstacles or adversity.
