About 8,000 homes in Belen and Los Lunas were without power Friday, beginning at 12:30 p.m., after two electrical poles went down behind the Red Balloon Restaurant in Los Lunas.

Julie McCabe, a spokesperson for Public Service Company of New Mexico, said that power to 3,700 homes was restored in 10 minutes. Power to the others was restored in about 90 minutes.

The cause of the poles going down was not known, she said. High winds had blown through the valley that day.

Power was restored by “a switch reroute from another substation, which can be done remotely sometimes,” she said.
