RIO COMMUNITIES — April proved to be an eventful month for the Women’s Golf Association, with the featured event being the first ever Pro Am Tournament on April 26.

With five pros participating, Max Montoya and Clinton Tabet led their teams to a first-place tie.

Montoya’s team players were Edie Redfearn-Moore, Anna Martinez and Marilyn Winters. Tabet’s team players were Lina Castillo, Paula Valdez and Kathy Burrow.

Other pro players were Craig Tabet, Patrick Valerio and Dominick Romero.

Declared a success, the WGA plans to make this tournament an annual event.

The first ever WGA Pro Am event was a big success at Tierra del Sol Golf Course in Rio Communities.

In the meeting day scramble on April 5, first place was won by the team of Marilyn Jaramillo, Tammie Fuller and Winters.

In the Partner’s Tournament on April 12, the Ladies 18 winners were Fran Griffeth and Marla Wersonick. The Ladies 9 winners were Nancy Kettenacker and Joanne Romero.

Ace Day winners for the month were Griffeth for the Ladies 9; Fuller for the Ladies 18; and Regina Trujillo for the Saturday Ladies 18.

Winning First Gross honors twice during the month was Ladies 18 player Berta Murzyn, who also scored two Birdies and an Eagle.

Other Ladies 18 First Gross winners were Redfearn-Moore, who also had two Birdies, and Trujillo, with one Birdie to her credit.

Kathryn Bayless and Fuller both scored a Birdie and a Chip-in each, and Robin Boyd scored a Chip-in.

The Eclectic Tournament will be played on Wednesdays, May, 17, and May 24. Regular play days and Ace Day competitions will round out the month.
