After a disappointing season, the Belen High School baseball team gained some recognition when two of its more experienced players earned all-district honors.

Senior center fielder Robert Rimorin and junior second baseman Steve Sanchez were picked to the district’s second team by District 3-4A coaches.

Eagle head coach Mike Gutierrez praised Rimorin and Sanchez for their play on the field and their dedication to the team. While Sanchez will return next year, the coach will miss Rimorin.

“Robert has a great work ethic,” the coach said. “He always comes in with a great attitude.”

Sanchez was selected to the second team for the second year in a row. He was a reliable defensive player and one of the Eagles’ top hitters.

“Steve brings a lot of consistency in the hitting department,” Gutierrez said. “I would say he’s one of our most consistent hitters, and he is another one with a great attitude and work ethic.”

The Eagles finished the season with a 3-16 record and failed to win a district game.
