Roberta F. Hensley

Roberta F. Hensley, a resident of Rio Communities, passed away on Aug. 22, 2022, at the age of 82.

Roberta was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Roberta was born in Tulsa, Okla., on April 11, 1940. She married her husband, Zane, on June 13, 1964, in Fairway, Kan.

Roberta worked as a schoolteacher before her first son was born but stopped working to raise him and her two other children. After moving to Belen in 1978, she started working at St. Mary’s School and completed her master’s degree in math at the University of New Mexico. She went on to teach at Rio Grande Elementary and La Merced Elementary before retiring.

She and her husband, Zane, traveled and enjoyed their retirement until he passed in 2016.

Roberta belonged to the Desert Doll Club and collected dolls her whole life but especially after she retired. She went to many doll conventions and vacations with her friends from doll club.

Roberta is preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Mildred McKinney; her husband, Zane Michael Hensley; her sister, Barbara Purcell; and her son, Eric F. Hensley.

She is survived by her children, Zane Christopher Hensley and Erica “Tina” Nunez and her husband, Joseph; granddaughter, Theresa Norman and husband, David, and their children, Marina and Zane Thomas; her grandson, Zane Joseph Nunez and his wife, Holly, and their children, Elyjah and Maryha.

A memorial will be held at Roberta’s home, 322 Goddard Ave., Rio Communities, from 1-5 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 17.
