No holds were barred and no punches held back on Saturday night when three heavy weights of comedy took to the stage at the Kiva Auditorium. Headlined by producer, actor and comedian Paul Rodriguez, the show also featured former boxer and comedic veteran Joey Medina and local comedian and radio DJ Anthony “The Animal.” He was asked to fill in when Alex Reymundo, a veteran of the comedy circuit, was unable to make the show.

The comic showcase featured a million bilingual laughs a minute. Even for those of us who don’t speak fluent Spanish, there were plenty of chuckles to go around. When these three funny men took to the stage, nothing was sacred.

Paul Rodriguez himself said, “The most offensive joke is one that’s not funny.”

The show included bits and pieces on terrorism, traveling, love and life. “The Animal” opened the show and was the master of ceremonies. The Albuquerque native got his hometown warmed up for the comedy to come.

Medina took the stage in the second spot and really got the crowd going. Medina has been on HBO and Showtime as the star of his own shows and has been on the comedy circuit for years.

Most of the two hours of the show, however, was used by the headliner, Paul Rodriguez. Rodriguez, who has been in a number of movies, and prides himself on doing comedy in tough places (i.e. San Quinten maximum security prison), had a far less difficult time with the New Mexico crowd.

The Mexico native and current California resident, made himself right at home at the Albuquerque Convention Cen-ter. Rodriguez praised New Mexico for its cuisine and must have had a grand time after spending three months without any Mexican food when he was taping in Mozambique.

Rodriguez had just arrived from a show in Dallas and will be continuing his tour on the West Coast with shows in San Diego and Washington state.
