Saiz recently won the District 1 seat on the Valencia County Commission.

He said after much consideration and a few sleepless nights, he decided he would resign from his Los Lunas Council seat.

“I’ve decided that it’s in the best interest of the village and the county and myself, to resign my seat on the council,” Saiz said at the Jan. 10 meeting. “I want to thank the employees of the village for their commitment, their hard work and their dedication. They are the backbone of this community.

“Thanks to this governing body and the previous governing bodies that I’ve worked with,” he said. “It’s been a pleasure, a challenge but overall a great learning experience.

“I would also like to thank the residents of Los Lunas for their ongoing support,” Saiz continued. “I hope that my representation has had a positive impact on their quality of life.”

Councilor Saiz’s resignation will be effective on Friday, Feb. 1. Los Lunas Mayor Charles Griego will accept letters of interest for the District 3 seat until 5 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 8.
