Salomon “Salo” Moya

Salomon “Salo” Moya, age 82, a resident of Peralta, passed away on March 14, 2023, in the home that he built and raised his family.

He was born on Jan. 14, 1941, to his parents, Eligio and Margarita Sanchez Moya, in La Constancia.

Services were held on Tuesday, March 21, at Sangre de Cristo Catholic Church, in Los Lunas. Interment followed at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Cemetery.

Salo is survived by his loving wife, Martha Maez Moya; children, Monica Moya, Estella Cannon, and husband, Craig Cannon, Salomon Moya and Adam Moya; grandchildren, Cecilia Moore, Hannah and Samuel Cannon, Jared, Rebecca and Monica Moya, Isobel, Maxmilian and Sonya Moya; great-grandchildren, Jacob, Emily and Faith Moore; brother, Victor Moya; sister, Criselda Thompson; and many nieces and nephews.

He will be remembered for his deep love for his family and community. Salo also had a deep abiding faith in God and devotion to the blessed Virgin Mary.

He retired from Sandia Labs, where he worked as a millwright and, after retirement, helped establish and volunteered for the St. Vincent de Paul Society for 10 years. Salo also helped establish and run the Valencia El Cerro Volunteer Fire Department in the 1970s.

He had a great love for reading and read the entire collection of Louis L’ Amour. Salo enjoyed hunting, being outdoors and gardening. He was most proud of his family and was a very generous and loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.

Salo always said, “I’ve had a good life.”

Pallbearers were Craig Cannon, Jared Moya, Hannah and Samuel Cannon, Diego Sanchez, and Maxmilian Moya. Honorary pallbearers were Jacob and Emily Moore and Isobel Moya.
