Theresa Serna was honored in January by her long-time employer, Mrs. Pete E. Torres, as the staff of Pete’s Cafe celebrated her 25 years of service at the restaurant.

Serna began working for Pete’s in 1976 as prep-cook and dishwasher and continued to work for the family-owned business until December, 2001.

Because of failing health, she decided to retire and take a much-needed rest necessary to improve her health.

Of the 22 employees at the restaurant, 20 were present along with members of the Torres family. The group gathered to listen to mariachis, share a meal and pay tribute to the 25 years of service Serna gave the restaurant.

Mrs. Torres led her staff in saying that Serna will always be remembered by her as a trustworthy, very loyal and dependable employee who was always there for her.

Other veteran employees, some of 20 years, also recalled their memories of their years of working together, along with more recent employees who came to know Serna.

After a presentation of gifts and the sharing of retirement cake, the Torres family closed by thanking the staff for coming out and sharing in the gesture of appreciation.
