Bosque Farms

Longtime Bosque Farms Fire Chief Walt Shoemaker has submitted his resignation to mayor Roger Baldwin.

Shoemaker said his decision to resign “had nothing to do with Tuesday’s municipal election.”

“Thirty years (as fire chief) is enough. The decision was made before the results of the election were known,” Shoemaker said.

Mayor Roger Baldwin said he had accepted Shoemaker’s resignation and he and the village councilors will decide on a new chief at their next meeting.

Shoemaker “has done an outstanding job. He brought that department from nothing to what it is today,” Baldwin said.

The village’s 16 firefighters will vote on a candidate and give the name to Baldwin. If he approves, he will submit the name to the village council. Then the council decides, Baldwin said.

“If I don’t think he can do the job, I won’t submit it to the council. And the firefighters will submit more” names, Baldwin said.
