Sylvia Chavez

Sylvia Chavez, age 82, a resident of Belen, was received into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ with her family at her bedside on Sept. 23, 2022.

Services will be held at Calvary Chapel Rio Grande Valley on Monday, Oct. 10. A final visitation will be held at 9:30 a.m. with a celebration of life to follow at 10:30 a.m.

Sylvia was married to Tony Chavez, the love of her life, for 23 years. She was a loving, devoted mother and an amazing role model for her three daughters, Barbara Carrillo (Lorenzo), Jacqueline Swift (Craig) and Donna Rendon, as they saw her live her faith daily with conviction.

Sylvia also dearly loved each one of her grandchildren, who affectionately called her “Granny,” and supported them in all they did. She enjoyed cooking for her family and hosting holiday gatherings.

Sylvia had many enjoyable times with her classmates traveling abroad over the years, as well as celebrating monthly birthday dinners with them.

Sylvia was the owner of T&S Income Tax Service in Belen for more than 20 years. She loved her clients, and they loved her. Sylvia was a woman of strong faith and truly loved sharing her faith in Jesus Christ with others. People were attracted to her kindness and loving personality. Anyone who knew Sylvia or spent time with her will miss the joy she brought through her smile, laughter and loving spirit.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Tony Chavez; parents, Merenciana Trujillo and Premetivo Trujillo; sister, Dolores Munsell; and nephews, Fred and Marty Maes.

She is survived by grandchildren, Lori Carrillo, Jenessa Carrillo, Kevin Carrillo, Nicholas Rendon, Rebekah Rendon, Sophia Rendon and Marie Swift; great-grandchildren, Cru McBride and Rhone McBride; sister, Pat Sais (Sam); brother, Gilbert Trujillo; nieces, Terrie Faulkner and Samantha Sais.
