Valencia County will once again be the site of a huge event this weekend as the St. Patrick’s Day Balloon Rallye takes off for the skies.
So often, people in our county don’t take advantage of what we have right here in our backyards. It’s just as colorful as the big balloon fiesta in Albuquerque, with many of the same balloons participating. But we don’t have to get up quite as early in the morning to drive all that way — and we can get home a lot faster afterwards.
A huge group of people work terribly hard to make sure it’s safe, fun and organized. Unless you’ve helped put something of this magnitude together yourself, you have no idea of how much effort goes into it.
Let yourself have a bit of fun. Get up early on Saturday and attend the balloon rallye and be sure to tell one of the workers how much you appreciate their efforts.
And volunteer to help with one of our local events if you really want to have a good time. There’s the big car show sponsored by the Los Lunas Chamber of Commerce, the county fair and fund-raisers for just about any school or church you can imagine.
The lesson is that we should volunteer for projects we believe in or ones we think will be fun — and then we should try to make it out to enjoy the events others have organized.
That’s how we make sure that events good for our economy occur and that there are more things for our young people to enjoy.
