It’s been great seeing Old Glory displayed with so much pride again, even though the pride was aroused by the events of Sept. 11.

As we display our nation’s colors, we should remember what that red, white and blue banner represents.

It represents a country that is similar to a family that disagrees within the walls of their home, but just let someone attack them, and they pull together.

The Stars and Stripes represent a group of people who are either first-generation Americans or descendants of people who left their homeland in quest of a better life and formed allegiance to their new homeland.

Our sons, daughters, brothers and sisters respond when they are called upon to defend what we treasure most — freedom.

After communism fell in the Soviet Union, a group of journalist came to the United States asking common people what their country meant to them. Freedom was the overwhelming response.

We have the freedom to tell our leaders we don’t agree with them, without fear of death.

We have freedom of speech, freedom to choose our own religion, freedom to travel throughout our land without constraints and freedom to pursue our dreams.

The American Way of Life should be celebrated in the future with as much gusto as it has since the attacks on America.
