Samuel Montoya, Cassius Martinez and Kip Karnes have all been certified Black Belts as of Aug. 3 at Belen Goju Ryu Karate.

Montoya started training at 4 1/2 years old and has grown up in the dojo. He is the son of Robert Montoya and Anna Sanchez, of Belen, and is a junior at Belen High School.

Martinez started training at 8 years old, and has been extremely hard working and dedicated ever since. He is the son of Eric and Amber Martinez, of Belen, and is freshman at Belen High School.

Karnes has been training in different martial arts most of his adult life. He found a home at Belen Goju Ryu Karate five years ago, and has achieved his Black Belt.  He is a teacher at Gil Sanchez Elementary and has two sons, Aedan and Torin, in the Belen public schools.

All three have worked very hard to attain this goal in Karate and continue to train hard and train often.
