Los Lunas High School senior Paul Cieremans is the Heisman High School Scholarship winner for the state of New Mexico.

Cieremans, a standout quarterback on the Tigers’ football team, is among 100 students from across the United States to receive the $1,000 scholarship.

According to a news release from Los Lunas Schools, the Heisman High School Scholarship is awarded to high school senior scholar-athletes “who understand that the most important victories not only happen on the field, but also in their schools and communities.”

To be eligible for the scholarship, students must be graduating with the class of 2023, have at least a grade point average of a B or better, take part in at least one recognized sport and be a leader in the community, according to the news release.

The scholarship is affiliated with the Heisman Memorial Trophy, which is awarded to the nation’s most outstanding college football player.
