Track and field season kicked off for Belen, Los Los Lunas and Valencia at the Los Lunas Track and Field Invite on Saturday.

On the boys’ side, Los Lunas finished third with 69 points, while Belen and Valencia tied at sixth place with 12 points.

First placers were Los Lunas’ Andrue Garcia in the 100-meter dash (11.38 seconds) and 200-meter dash (23.63 seconds); the Los Lunas 4×100-meter and 4×200-meter relay teams (44.95 and 1:34.90); and Valencia’s Austin Nagy in the javelin throw (140 feet, 6 inches).

On the girls’ side, Los Lunas placed fourth with 47 points. Valencia came in at seventh with 23 points, and Belen placed eighth with 18 points.

The only local girls to place first was the Los Lunas 4×100-meter relay team (53.40 seconds).

Los Alamos placed first in both the boys’ and the girls’ events on Saturday.

Up next for all three local teams will be the Jim Burke Invite at Belen High School.

The Jim Burke Invite is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. this upcoming Saturday morning.
