Twenty Valencia County students earned the right to compete in the State Science Fair at New Mexico Tech in Socorro next month.

They won with their projects at the regional science fair at the University of New Mexico last weekend.

Representing their schools will be:

  • Gil Sanchez Elementary School, Catalina Berry.
  • Los Lunas High School, Roland Kern and Matt Thomas.
  • Los Lunas Middle School, Adrianna Cole, Julian Garcia, Talysa Ogas and Dan Tooker.
  • Manzano Vista Middle School, Kyle Dear, Daniel Matthes, Spencer Moya, Robbie Sanchez, Timothy Sosa, Audriana Vigil and Andrea Wilson.
  • St. Mary’s School, Sarah Garcia, Jackson Krauss, Lenore Moya and DeeAnn Sanchez.
  • Raymond Gabaldon Intermediate School, Alexandria Romero.

Individual winners are:

  • Mark Baca, St. Mary’s, $5 from Albuquerque Science Teachers Association.
  • Leslie Clute, Los Lunas Middle School, $50 bond from Albuquerque Area Extension Master Gardeners.
  • Marcello Codianni, St. Mary’s, $5 from Albuquerque Science Teachers Association.
  • Adrianna Cole of Los Lunas Middle School, $25 from Albuquerque Science Teachers Association.
  • Beau Estrada, St. Mary’s, $110 from AARP Andrus Foundation.
  • Julian Garcia, Los Lunas Middle School, $5 from Albuquerque Science Teachers; Enchanted Gardening Award, copy of book, “Enchanted Gardening.”
  • Timothy Huerena, Manzano Vista Middle School, $60 from Albuquerueque District Dental Society.
  • Roland Kern, Los Lunas High School, $100 Kiwanis Club of Downtown Albuquerque Award.
  • Chris Larsen, $100 savings bond from Kirtland Air Force Base Officers’ Spouses Club.
  • Daniel Matthes, Manzano Vista Middle School, second in junior botany, $50 and medal from the Native Plant Society.
  • Stephanie McIntosh, Los Lunas High School, $500 scholarship to UNM.
  • Spencer Moya, Manzano Vista Middle School, third in junior zoology, $25 and medal.
  • Talysa Ogas of Los Lunas Middle School, $25 from Albuquerque Science Teachers Association; $150 savings bond from American Society for Microbiology, Rio Grande Branch; $50 savings bond from Kirtland Air Force Base Officers’ Spouses Club.
  • Lucas Peralta of Daniel Fernandez Intermediate, $100 from The Boeing Company.
  • Alexandria Romero, Raymond Gabaldon School, $5 from Albuquerque Science Teachers.
  • Patrick Ryan, Daniel Fernandez School, $25 from Albuquerque Science Teachers Association.
  • Gregory Sanchez, Daniel Fernandez Intermediate, first in junior chemistry, $100 and medal from the Native Plant Society; $100, American Chemical Society Award.

  • Matt Thomas, Los Lunas High School, $500 scholarship to UNM; first in senior biochemstry, $100 and medal from Loevlace Health Systems.
  • Dan Tooker, Los Lunas Middle School, second in junior environmental, $50 and medal from PNM; City of Albuquerque Award, Environmental Health Department plaque; $100 savings bond and emblem award from Kiwanis Club of Coronado.
  • Victoria Torres, Manzano Vista, $5 from Albuquerque Science Teachers Association.
  • Joseph Viviani, St. Mary’s, $100 from AARP Andrus Foundation.
  • Dusty Wright, Los Lunas High School, $500 scholarship to UNM.

Teacher Rick Cole of Los Lunas High School won a weekend night stay from the Albuquerque Marriott Hotel.

Teacher Chris O’Connor of Manzano Vista Middle School was awarded a $25 gift certificate from Betty’s Bath and Day Spa.
