Los Lunas

The Los Lunas Village Council passed a resolution Thursday night supporting establishment of a national veterans cemetery in Valencia County.

Councilor Gerard Saiz was named as the designee to represent Los Lunas in trying to secure the cemetery.

The National Veteran’s Cemetery in Santa Fe is currently searching for a place to expand its current facility. According to those trying to bring the cemetery here, Valencia County is the perfect site because it’s centrally located and is known to have more Bataan Death March survivors than any other county.

Petitions are being circulated around the county to establish a new cemetery here in Valencia County.

“The resolution is similar to what the county did. I think it’s a great idea,” Saiz said. “I really appreciate the village supporting it.”

In other action, the village approved maintenance work of the East Sanitary Sewer Extension and Desert Willow Road located at the Los Morros business park.
