Los Lunas
For a second straight year, the village of Los Lunas recreation division is sponsoring a youth basketball league.
Marcos Castillo, recreation supervisor, said the response has been overwhelming with 280 children registered and many others on a waiting list.
Because of limited gym space, Castillo expects roster spots to soon be filled. There are six divisions for boys and girls, ages 5 through 12.
Games will begin Saturday, Nov. 12, at the Daniel Fernandez Gym. The village is bringing the league back because the Los Lunas Youth Basketball League will be inactive again.
Jeff Lassard, with LLYBL, told the News-Bulletin they are eyeing a return for next season. The LLYBL had issues getting gyms up until this year because of the pandemic, Lassard says.
There have been other obstacles, specifically a shortage of staff and volunteers.
“I am hoping by August of 2023 we will have enough staff and volunteers to get registrations started,” Lassard said.
