The Belen girls tennis team qualified for the 4A State Tennis Championship by capturing the District 5-4A title.

Belen girls’ tennis team competes this week in the 4A State Championships in Albuquerque.  

BHS, which qualified by winning the District 5-4A title, is seeded fifth and will face No. 12 Grants.

Valencia’s Daniel Altobello won the District 5-4A title to advance to the 4A State Tennis Championship.

The Belen boys are No. 11 and will go up against No. 6 Espanola Valley. 

The team tournament begins Friday at Sierra Vista in Albuquerque. Belen is coached by Chrissy Cordova.  

The Eagles doubles team of Ava Fragua and Gabriela Jaramillo is the overall top seed for the girls.  

The Eagles’ Luke Austin advanced to the boys’ singles bracket by finishing third in district. 

Valencia’s Daniel Altobello qualified as well after winning the district championship.   

The singles and doubles tournaments got underway Wednesday at Albuquerque Academy after News-Bulletin’s print deadline.
