Shortly after throwing the first-pitch Saturday at Enchantment Little League opening ceremonies, Ryan Castillo of Los Lunas, posted his first victory for the University of New Mexico.

Throwing out the first pitch at opening ceremonies Saturday for Enchantment Little League was apparently the perfect warm up for Ryan Castillo, a freshman pitcher for the University of New Mexico.

Within hours of that appearance, Castillo, of Los Lunas, was on his way to being named both the Mountain West Conference Pitcher of the Week and Freshman of the Week.

In game two of a doubleheader Saturday against San Jose State, Castillo earned his first career victory by throwing five innings of relief without giving up an earned run in the Lobos 17-4 seven-inning victory.

Castillo, a preferred walk-on at UNM, had seven strikeouts, zero walks and gave up just two hits. It was only the fourth appearance as a Lobo for Castillo, who had a stellar career at Los Lunas High School.
