Valencia County race car drivers dominated the action at Duke City Raceway Saturday night, taking the top two spots in each of the three main events.

Local drivers captured the top three spots in the Barnett Modified Series main race on a technicality. Edgewood’s Butch Reid crossed the finish line first but was disqualified for not immediately reporting to the tech area for inspection.

Division points leader Richard Johnson of Los Lunas claimed the win as a result. Troy Treharn of Peralta was second and Bobby Bachechi of Los Lunas was third in a field of 21 cars.

Other local drivers included Donald Clinger of Los Lunas, who was ninth, and Mark McClarren of Los Lunas, who finished 15th.

In Late Model action, Ronnie Frazier, Jr. of Los Chavez took the checkered flag in the main event ahead of Belen’s Jim Willis. Points leader Robert Schorr of Rio Rancho placed third. Squeaky Mendoza of Belen was fourth. John Aragon of Bosque Farms was seventh.

Thomas Winters of Los Lunas won the Street Stock main event. Division points leader Jay Pape of Bosque Farms was second. Willis placed fourth and Tag von Gedda of Los Lunas was ninth.

The race for season championships continues this Saturday in the Late Model, Street Stock and Hobby Stock divisions. Racing gets underway at 6:30 p.m.
