The U.S. Department of Commerce, Economic Development Administration (EDA) is
considering a request for Federal assistance from Valencia Soil and Water Conservation District (VSWCD) to construct a Building Economic Resiliency in the Aftermath of the Big Hole Fire in Belen, Valencia, New Mexico. Pursuant to the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA), EDA is conducting an assessment of the potential of the proposed project to affect the environment and/or historic properties.

The project Funding will be used for construction of buildings and infrastructure that are vital to economic recovery and resiliency in the area devastated by the Big Hole Fire, which will also improve conditions for disadvantaged communities and geographies within the District’s service area of 1.4 million. This project will also reduce the potential devastation of future climate disasters and decrease the bounce back time to recovery from climate disasters. The project will be located at 2424 State Highway 47, Belen, NM 87002. Project information is available for review at the VSWCD’s office, which is located at the project location.
