LOS LUNAS — Two men have been arrested on charges they allegedly committed an armed robbery at an ice cream shop in Los Lunas last month.

Two men walked into Baskin-Robbins at 6:25 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 21, one with a gun and demanding money.
The next day, on Monday, Jan. 22, LLPD distributed a news release regarding the robbery, including a still image of the suspects and a still image of the getaway suspect vehicle. The investigation revealed that the suspect vehicle was stolen and recovered on Monday, Jan. 22.
Investigators conducted a search warrant on the car to investigate the robbery further. On Tuesday, Jan. 23, detectives received numerous tips regarding this incident, including the names of the suspects.
The offenders were identified as 30-year-old Gene Perez, of Belen, and 20-year-old Charley Heald, of Los Lunas.
On Tuesday, Jan. 30, detectives obtained two arrest warrants from the 13th District Attorney’s Office for Perez and Heald for multiple felonies, including armed robbery.

Arrested
On Wednesday, Jan. 31, Los Lunas detectives located and arrested Perez in Los Chavez. He was booked as an inmate at the Valencia County Detention Center on the arrest warrant, where he is currently incarcerated on a no-bond warrant.
On Feb. 2, detectives located Heald at a motel in Albuquerque. Detectives worked with the U.S. Marshals Service to arrest Heald, who had two felony warrants for his arrest for fugitive/absconder from the New Mexico Adult Probation and Parole Office.
Heald was booked as an inmate into the VCDC on multiple felony warrants, including the armed robbery warrant.
He is incarcerated on a no-bond hold warrant.
