LOS LUNAS — The Los Lunas Police Department is investigating a report of a man impersonating a police officer.

On the evening of Wednesday, Feb. 14, a driver was pulled over on Camelot Blvd in Los Lunas by an unmarked black pickup truck described as possibly a Chevy with an unknown license plate number that was equipped with red and blue police-style lights.

According to a LLPD press release, the driver said the suspect approached him the car asking for their driver’s license and proof of insurance. They described the impersonator as a Hispanic male in his 40s, with brown hair who was clean-shaven.

The suspect asked the driver to exit the vehicle and shortly after allowed a woman accompanying the driver to leave. The report stated the impersonator was armed and was wearing a black uniform without a name tag or body-worn camera.

LLPD has not received reports of similar incidents involving officer impersonation, but the department will release any surveillance or images if obtained.

Anyone with information regarding this case is encouraged to contact LLPD detective Killingsworth, the case agent, at 505-839-3955 or email [email protected]
