Joe and Angela Martinez, of Belen, will be celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary on Aug. 26.

The couple was married in 1972 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Santa Fe.

Joe retired in 2006 from the Los Lunas Corrections Center or “Honor Farm,” and the Juvenile Detention Center, both in Los Lunas. After he retired, he went to work at Walmart.

He graduated from Santa Fe High School in 1969. He enjoys visiting with his children, family and friends. He also enjoys carpentry, building and fixing things and caring for his farm animals. He also enjoys helping others.

Angela is a family care provider, caring for her niece for the past 27 years. She graduated from San Bernadino High School in California in 1971, and attended college. She enjoys crafts, sewing, gardening, people and reading.

The Martinezes, who are parishioners at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church, have five children, David Martinez and his wife, Davina; daughter, Lynnette Davis; son, Nathaniel Martinez; daughter, Lynda and husband, Marc Romero; and son, Richard Martinez and wife, Roxanne.

They have 11 grandchildren, DeLayne and husband, Malachi Johnson, Andres and Alex Gutierrez, Cameron Davis, Savanna Grace Martinez, Tomas and wife, Skylar, and Lyenxa, Ryanne, Richard Anthony, Ramon and Raelynn Martinez.

They have seven great-grandchildren, Justus, Jayden, Jiovonni, Joziah and Lyric, Elijah, and Lylah Romero.

Joe and Angela have had 50 years of ups and downs, with more blessings than life can count.

They have had 50 years of building a life, side by side;

50 years of supporting each other and learning to flow with the tide;

50 years of working together, sharing the chores day to day;

50 years of vision and teamwork, chasing distractions away;

50 years of growing together, talking things out in the night;

50 years of dreaming and planning, securing a future that is bright;

50 years of total commitment and prayers, knowing that it was God’s plan;

50 years would turn into forever, true love for this man and woman who have been blessed and gifted with five beautiful children, 11 precious grandchildren, seven special great-grandchildren, and more blessings than we ever expected.

Joe and Angela are grateful. God bless to all … our family, friends and anyone we’ve encountered along the way. Jesus, we trust in you. Till we meet again.
