DWI checkpoints

New Mexico State Police will be conducting sobriety checkpoints, saturation patrols, and registration, insurance and driver’s license checkpoints in all New Mexico counties during the month of August.

 

Valencia County Fair

The 88th annual Valencia County Fair will be held through Aug. 8 at the fairgrounds in Belen. Events include various animal shows throughout the week, a pie-eating contest and corn hole tournament on Friday, Aug. 6, the hamburger eating challenge, a chile cook-off and junior livestock show on Saturday, Aug. 7.

The annual Valencia County Fair Parade will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 7, on Main Street in Belen. The theme of this year’s parade is “Wild West.” Those who want to participate is asked to contact the Greater Belen Chamber of Commerce at [email protected] or call 505-463-5558.

 

Bosque Farms Fair

The annual Bosque Farms Fair will be held Aug. 6-7 at the Bosque Farms Rodeo Association grounds. An ice cream social will kick off the fair at 3:30 p.m., Friday, Aug. 6, in the Cowboy Hall, and the toad races will begin at 6:30 p.m. The parade, which begins at 8:30 a.m., will start at the corner of Margaret Drive and the South Loop and travel to the rodeo grounds. There will also be a car show, kids races, horseshoe pitching, dog show and more.

 

VC Sheriff’s Posse Rodeo

The annual Valencia County Sheriff’s Posse Rodeo will be held at 7 p.m., Aug. 6-7, at the VCSP Arena. There will be bull riding, saddle bronc, bareback bronc, barrel racing, tie-down roping, steer wrestling, team roping, mutton busting and break-away roping. The cost of admission is $10 for adults, $5 for children 4-12 years old, and free for children ages 3 and younger.

 

LLHS 1971 reunion

The Los Lunas High School Class of 1971 will hold its 50th class reunion from 4-7 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 7, at Teofilo’s Restaurante, 144 Main St. in Los Lunas. The reunion will be in the large dining room and outside patio for both indoor and outdoor areas/seating available. WWII history discussion

John Taylor will discuss a brief history of “Eternal Patrol: America’s Lost Submarines” with a focus on the 52 submarines that were lost during WWII from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 7, at the Los Lunas Transportation Center.

 

Summer concert

The First Methodist Church, 75 Manzano Expressway, in Rio Communities, will hold a Summer Concert at 6:30 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 7, and at 4 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 8. Tickets are $10 per seat. Only 100 tickets per performance will be sold to insure social distancing

 

Food for seniors

The ECHO CSFP Program is offering free food for senior citizens who are 60 years old and older from 8 a.m. to noon, Tuesday, Aug. 10, at the Belen Community Center, 305 Eagle Lane.
