Tomé — The Fitness Wellness and Education Center at the University of New Mexico-Valencia campus not only offers courses for credit, but it is developing non-credit, community education programming.

Community members who aren’t interested in applying and enrolling in credit courses are welcome to use the facility and can stop by for a tour. The center includes cardiovascular, flexibility and strength training equipment.

Teachers, first responders and members of law enforcement can use the facility at a discounted rate.

The current fee schedule is $50 per semester/summer term for community members; $45 for UNM faculty and staff, and $25 for alumni, emeriti faculty, first responders, law enforcement and teachers.

Students can use the facility for free.
The center is open Monday through Friday, and hours are posted each week at the center as well as under the Wellness Center section of the UNM-Valencia website — valencia.unm.edu — which is under the Campus Resources menu.

Announcements and current programming at the center will be posted on the campus’ social media platforms.

Wellness Center staff can also answer questions about the schedule.

Community gym membership payment can be made at tinyurl.com/443uz265 or in the cashier’s office in the administration building on the north side of the campus.
Staff at the FWEC will help members with their personal health and wellness goals.

Emphasis is placed on gaining awareness and knowledge of each of the five components of health-related physical fitness, and an appreciation for healthy eating and an active lifestyle.

The center is available to support sports clubs for students and the community.

The center is also available for community member led classes, such as aerobics, martial arts, Pilates, resistance training, walking for fitness or Zumba. Center staff will promote the course, collect the fees and schedule the class.

For more information about the Wellness Center or to teach a class, contact the coordinator of recreational services at 505-925-8832 or [email protected].
