BELEN — If you’re looking to make your spring planting a little more varied, stop by the Belen Public Library’s seed exchange next month.

“Last year, the staff discussed establishing a seed library like Albuquerque has, which is just fantastic,” said Jessica Rodgers, the library’s computer specialist.

A recent staff retirement and rearrangement of remaining staff members means the seed library is on hold, Rodgers said, but the library is hosting a one-day seed exchange from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Wednesday, March 8, in the library’s public meeting room.

“We want to get the community more involved in the library to remind them we have more than just books,” she said.

Those who want to come to the exchange are asked to bring at least one packet of seeds and should bring their own container to take seeds home, Rodgers said.

“We want to establish a seed library at some point, and a tool library. I really want a ‘sticker picker,’” she said. “It’s a tool that picks up goat heads. I really need that in my life.”

The Belen Public Library is located at 333 Becker Ave.
