Los Lunas and Belen took a break from district action Wednesday, facing off against each other, with LLHS posting a 7-6 victory. It was the Tigers ninth straight win. 

The visiting Eagles scored three runs in the first inning, behind two hits and several LLHS miscues. The Tigers were plagued by six errors overall.

Los Lunas answered with two runs in the bottom of the first and one in the second to tie the game at 3-3. BHS scored twice in the fourth to build a 6-4 advantage, but Los Lunas rallied with three in the fifth and hung on for a 7-6 victory.  

JJ Utash, freshman, had three of the Tigers’ 13 hits. Belen had 12 hits and two errors. Individual batting stats for BHS were not immediately available. On the mound, Jonah Utash, freshman, got the victory in relief for LLHS.  

Los Lunas (14-8, 6-0) returns to District 5-5A action later this week on the road, with a huge Saturday doubleheader against co-district leader Rio Grande (18-4, 6-0). Belen (15-8, 4-2) hosts Atrisco Heritage Saturday in a non-district game.
