Rio Communities 

After a disappointing month of weather conditions that limited play for the Women’s Golf Association, the month of April proved to be much better.   

The meeting day scramble on March 6 was won by Berta Murzyn, Dorothy Lindberg, Kathy Burrow, and Beverly Turley.  

First Gross winners in March included Fran Griffeth in the Ladies 9 Division and Berta Murzyn and Lina Castillo in the Ladies 18 Division. 

Winners in the April 3 meeting day scramble were Murzyn, Griffeth, Burrow, and Marilyn Winters. During the scramble day competition, Tammie Fuller and Josanne Cossio scored chip-in birdies.  

The playday on April 10 was designated as the first Ace Day competition for the season. Marla Wersonick was the Ladies 9 winner, and Fuller was the Ladies 18 winner. The Saturday Ace Day was played on April 27 with Murzyn winning in the Ladies 9 Division. There were no Ladies 18 players that day. 

A Partners Tournament was played on April 17. Kerri Allgood and Edie Redfearn-Moore won First Gross, with Kathryn Bayless and Wersonick winning Second Gross.  

First Net winners were Marilyn Jaramillo and Marilyn Winters, and Second Net winners were Bernadette Jaramillo and Rebecca Gallegos. 

Murzyn was a two-time First Gross winner in the Ladies 18 Division and also won First Gross once in the Ladies 9 Division during April. Griffeth scored a First Gross win in the Ladies 9 Division. 

Chip-ins during April were scored by Marilyn Jaramillo, Bayless and two for Murzyn, who also had two birdies. 

Several WGA ladies are playing in the NM Golf Tour which takes place once a month at various courses in our area.  

In April, Winters won First Net at the TDS Tourney; Bayless won Second Gross, Tinky Ulivarri won First Net, and Marilyn Jaramillo won Second Net at the Los Altos Tourney; and Ulivarri won First Net, while Bayless won Second Net at the Arroyo del Oso Tourney. 

In May the Eclectic Tournament and the second round of Ace Day competitions will be played.
