As part of its commitment to installing solar throughout the village of Los Lunas, the village turned the switch last week on the all-new solar array at the fleet maintenance building, located at 227 Don Pasqual Road NW.

The new 24 kW system generates enough power to power the entire building and its new addition — the state-of-the-art heavy line bus and equipment shop. The system was designed and installed by Affordable Solar.

“The system will cover 100 percent of our electricity needs in those two buildings,” said Michael Jaramillo, Public Works director.

“And we will cover the upfront cost in less than eight years. We are thrilled to do what’s right by saving the taxpayers money and doing what’s right in the long run for the community, the state and the environment.”
