Los Lunas

The Los Lunas boys team finished off the regular season with a win over Albuquerque High on Friday night, by a final of 70-59.

Jalin Holland led the way with 28 points for the Tigers, while Jamian Perez scored 23 points.

With that win the Tigers finished district play with a perfect 10-0 mark.

Los Lunas will play in their district tournament this week. They will find out their first opponent later in the week after the lower finishing teams play one another.

The Los Lunas girls’ regular season ended with a split of games last week.

The Lady Tigers began the week’s play by blowing out Rio Grande by a final of 55-10.

In that contest it was Adri Gaerlan that led the way with 13 points for LLHS, while Tayden Hanks scored 11 points.

“We needed some momentum,” head coach Anne Salazar said after the contest. “We got that, and I think it will really help us coming up.”

The Lady Tigers then lost to Albuquerque High in their regular season finale on Friday night, by a final of 57-22.

After those two games, the Lady Tigers ended the regular season 8-17 overall and 6-4 in district play.

Los Lunas will play in their district tournament as well this week.

Valencia

Out at Valencia, the regular season ended on a sour note for the Lady Jaguars.

In their lone contest last week, Valencia fell 49-35 to the Highland Hornets, to drop their record to 15-10 overall and 5-3 in district.

The Lady Jaguars will play in their district tournament this week.The Valencia boys hung in with the number one team in Class 4A, the Highland Hornets, before losing 50-35.

Valencia led 8-6 at the end of the first quarter, and trailed 18-16 at halftime before Highland took over in the third.

Ali Abdullah had 9 points, while Mariano Perea added 8 points for the Jaguars in the contest.

The Valencia boys will be playing in their district tournament this week, opening play against St. Pius up in Albuquerque.

Belen

The Belen boys ended up splitting their games last week against St. Pius and Grants.

To begin the week the Eagles lost to St. Pius by a final of 60-50.

A rough second quarter, one that St. Pius outscored Belen 19-8, doomed the Eagles in that contest.

The Eagles then bounced back with a victory on Friday night over Grants by a final of 58-47.

In that contest it was Elijah Romero leading the way with 14 points. Dalton Bland added 10 points, as did Daniel Corrales.

Belen finishes the regular season 15-10 overall and 4-4 in district play.

The Eagles will have a rematch with Grants to begin the district tournament this week in Belen.

The Lady Eagles dropped both of their games last week, one to St. Pius and the other to Grants.

Belen fell by a final of 46-32 to St. Pius to begin the week. To end the week the Lady Eagles lost 42-33 to Grants.

Belen ends the regular season 1-24 overall and 0-8 in district play.
