Adele Marie Thompson

1942-2024

Adele Marie Thompson, nee Dykers, age 81, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away Thursday April 18.

Adele Marie Thompson

Adele was born in Phoenix, Ariz., on Sept. 4, 1942, but grew up in Belen, where she met and married Danny Max Thompson in July 1960. They had three children, Marty, Bobby and Stephanie.

In May 2008, she married her second husband, William L. Huckabay.

Adele was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Adele balanced motherhood, a successful accounting career and being an active member of her community via a mixture of her skills in accounting and sports.

She played, coached, volunteered, promoted and did accounting for various sporting organizations all her life, including serving as the treasurer for the New Mexico Games, the Silver Gloves Senior Women’s Softball Organization, and the New Mexico Senior Sports Foundation, the latter from which she received a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2021. She also volunteered at APS reading to young children and did volunteer tax returns for AARP.

Adele loved family. She not only knew the family tree and family history for multiple generations, but cultivated close relationships among family members, especially her many cousins. This love of family and strong conviction in the importance of staying connected, made Adele a gathering point and bond for family and friends. There was nothing she enjoyed more than being together with those she loved.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Martin Davies Dykers and Marie Jeanne Dykers, nee Grandjean; her first husband, Danny Max Thompson; second husband, William L. Huckabay; her brothers, Billy Charles Dykers and Edward Davis Dykers; and her grandson, Nicholas Ryan Thompson.

She is survived by brother, Bobby (Betty) Davis; brother, Larry (Iris) Dykers; sister, Karen Headley, nee Dykers; brother, Martin Dykers; son, Martin (Dell) Thompson; and grandson, David (Shann); and great-granddaughter, Roise; son, Robert (Jimmie) Thompson; and grandson, Jesse (Krystal); great-grandchildren, Tyla, Hunter, Milissa and Jayce; granddaughter, Sarah; and grandson, Danny; daughter, Stephanie (Brandon) Rickerman, nee Thompson; and granddaughters, Madison and Chloe; as well as numerous cousins and friends.
