BELEN — Belen Railway Employees Credit Union was honored with the Benefit of Members Award by the Credit Union National Association Office.

As a result of high-dividend rates, low fees and low loan rates, BRECU ranked third in the nation from a pool of 3,247 credit unions. The award is calculated from financial data submitted to CUNA and was determined that members pay about $600 less than those banking at other institutions.

Paul Stull, president of the NM Credit Union Association, received the award on behalf of BRECU at the National CUNA Conference in Washington, D.C., on March 20. The award was presented to the BRECU, by Stull, at its annual meeting on March 31.

“It’s an honor to receive this national award; the staff works very hard to ensure that members receive quality service,” said Gerry Troyer, CEO.

He also stated this award is proof that those who choose BRECU as their financial partner save money.

The BRECU was established in 1955 and is the oldest member-owned financial institution in Belen; their new building is located on the corner of Reinken and Sixth streets.

Current and former Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad employees and their families qualify for membership. Troyer said if interested in becoming a member, please call. New members are always welcome, said Troyer.
