Ben Olguin

Ben Olguin, age 92, of Rio Communities, passed away on Dec. 15, 2023. 

Ben is preceded in death by his parents, Phillip and Fita Olguin; sisters, Rosie Armendariz and Lucy Olguin; brothers, Felix Olguin and Gabriel Olguin; as well as his daughter, Jerri; and grandson, Erick, all of whom are from California. 

He is survived by his loving wife, Phyllis; son, Rick (Sandra) Olguin; daughter, Honeybee (Joe) Ybarra; sister, Jenny Ayala; brother, Paul Olguin; six grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. He also leaves behind many special nieces and nephews, and cousins, Pauline (Richard) Olguin Sanchez, of Socorro, Juanita Olguin, of Socorro, and Helen Gurule, of Albuquerque. 

Ben was an avid golfer. He was a member of the Tierra Del Sol Golf Club, the NM Tech Golf Course and the Albuquerque Seniors Golf Course, all of which he thoroughly enjoyed. 

He often frequented the Del Rio Senior Center and was a member of the Rio Grande Valley Band. He loved music, so much so that he shared it widely. He’d play for the local senior centers in Belen, Los Lunas, Albuquerque and at the Belen Meadows senior center. 

A memorial service for Ben will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 21, at Noblin Funeral Service Belen Chapel. A visitation will take place at 1 p.m., followed by a memorial service at 1:30 p.m. A reception will take place immediately following the service at the Tierra Del Sol Golf Club.
