For three weekends in March, the Bosque Farms Rodeo Association Arena will host the Baca Rodeo Series, which is leaving Belen after decades.

Head ’em up, move ’em out.

After more than 40 years in Belen, Casper Baca Rodeo Series is galloping north, but staying in Valencia County.

The Bosque Farms Rodeo Association Arena will host the rodeo during a three-weekend run, each Saturday and Sunday, starting March 16 and ending Easter Sunday, March 31.

After a falling out with the Valencia County Sheriff’s Posse, CJ Baca searched for a new home for the family-operated series, coming to an agreement with the Bosque Farms Rodeo Association.

“The open arms, honestly,” Baca said is what attracted him to Bosque Farms. “What works for me is the bare necessities that they’ll provide.”

According to Baca, BFRA will cover “working of the arena, the tractor work. They will water the arena. They’ve got restroom facilities. It’s a safe place. There are plenty of pens for us.”

The facility also has an events center, Cowboy Hall, for food and relaxation.

Anthony Montoya, BFRA president, thinks it’s an excellent fit.

“I’ve been to it as a spectator, and I’ve been to it as a participant,” Montoya said. “Honestly, it’s a great time.”

Despite relatively short notice, Montoya, says they will be ready to go.

“We have a great work team and a caretaker that does a fantastic job — our arena is always in really good shape,” he added.
