Carolyn Elizabeth Fernandez

Carolyn Elizabeth Fernandez was born on Dec. 19, 1957, and passed away at her home on June 17, 2023.

Carolyn was a long-time resident of Belen, and was known to her true friends as “Thunder.”

She is survived by her mother, Shirley Mae Busch; father, Walter Junior Gorline; brother, Ken Gorline; sister, Misty Stark-Lorsbach; daughter, Sherryl Lynn Fernandez and fiancé, Wayne Hickam; daughter, Antoinette Fernandez; husband, Aaron Halpin; granddaughters, Makayla Fernandez and Marissa Fernandez; aunt, Barbara Cavazos Pilger; uncle, Jim Hoffman, and many loving cousins.

Carolyn was a loving daughter, mother, grandmother and friend in the community. She always sought out an opportunity to brighten up someone’s day by gifting a flower or a piece of handmade artwork. Carolyn loved animals, was a great helper, a hard worker and she could handle anything.

She worked at the Middle Rio Grande Conservancy District for several years, volunteering with Meals on Wheels and, when she came across anyone in need, she would give the shirt off her back.

Carolyn loved Jesus, the outdoors, bike rallies, art and her dogs.

A celebration of life will be held from 2-4 p.m., Friday, June 23, at the Vista Del Rio Park/Boa Vida Communities Clubhouse, 1 Vista Del Rio in Rio Communities.

In lieu of funeral arrangements, the Fernandez family is requesting donations be made to the local animal shelter or the American Diabetes Association in her memory. “We will miss you mom/grandma/Thunder.”

Funeral arrangements were trusted to Noblin Funeral Service, Belen, 418 W. Reinken Avenue Belen, NM 87002, 505-864-4448.
