After six years and one state championship, Eric Chavez has resigned as boys’ soccer coach at Los Lunas High School.

“I had a great six years here at Los Lunas High School,” Chavez said. “I had a good run and made lifelong friends and memories.”

In 2019, Chavez guided the Tigers to the schools’ second boys soccer state championship, posting a 2-1 victory over Los Alamos in the 4A title game. In addition, LLHS reached the state semifinals in 2018. However, the Tigers have struggled recently, finishing with a 4-16 mark this season while competing in 5A.

Chavez, a teacher at LLHS, had been commuting from Albuquerque, which has been “rough.” He will now pursue other career options.

“I have been waiting to pull my administrative degree out of my back pocket for some 12 years now,” he said. “Los Lunas High School will always be a special place!”
